6 Ways to Balance Each Chakra

What are the benefits of cleansing & balancing your Chakras?

Our Chakras or energy bundles can cause physical, emotional & spiritual blockages within our energy flow. Blockages can hinder our ability to deal with trauma, stress, anxiety & emotional relationships (with ourselves & others) which can lead to physical dis-ease. By working through each Chakra, we can address feelings that arise & deal with trauma that has been locked away.

Each Chakra has behaviour characteristics that determine whether it’s over-active, balanced or unbalanced. There are ways to balance each energy bundle & these activities usually relate to looking inward.

Below I give you 6 simple ways to bring balance to each Chakra. Once all 7 are balanced, you’ll feel harmony between your mind, body & soul. This is because the energy that flows through your Subtle Body (the intangible self) is flowing freely from Root to Crown.

Root Chakra (Muladhara)

  1. Dance like nobody’s watching
  2. Ground yourself by walking barefoot on grass or earth
  3. Take a shower, connecting to water
  4. Surround yourself with the colour Red
  5. Pamper your feet with a foot massage or pedicure
  6. Grounding meditations

Sacral Chakra (Svadisthana)

  1. Surround yourself with the colour Orange
  2. Write down your feelings & why you feel this way
  3. Talk to someone close & off-load your feelings
  4. Draw, paint or create with no goal but just for the enjoyment of it
  5. Practise hip opening yoga poses
  6. Take a shower, connecting with water

Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)

  1. Practise back bending & heart opening yoga poses
  2. Cleanse your digestive system
  3. Eat a clean & healthy diet
  4. Speak daily self-love & compassionate affirmations in the mirror
  5. Make a list of your achievements no matter how small
  6. Create a new short term goal & write a list of 3 actions needed to achieve it

Heart Chakra (Anahata)

  1. Connect with nature & animals
  2. Surround yourself with images that represent love, kindness & compassion
  3. Stretch out the intercostal muscles in the ribs with side body stretches
  4. Practise Pranayama (Breath work) to allow energy to flow freely
  5. Meditate on opening the heart, giving & receiving love
  6. Hug, hug & hug some more

Throat Chakra (Visudhi)

  1. Work with the Bija mantra “ham”, a one syllable sound chanted out loud
  2. Start journaling daily – Think feelings, stresses, thoughts, daily goals & little wins
  3. Try Lion’s Breath breathing technique (Inhale through the nose, exhale with a roar. As your tongue sticks out. Eyes open)
  4. Wear blue or turquoise gemstones/pendants (Amazonite, Turquoise, Aquamarine, Lapis Lazuli)
  5. Sing to yourself or to others, just start singing – out loud!
  6. Practise expressing your emotions in the mirror. Be clear & concise about what you like & don’t like.

  1. Nadi Shodhana Pranayama (Breath Work)
  2. Practise Kundalini (Ascension) Yoga
  3. Start a dream journal & pay attention to any patterns or themes
  4. Try “Tapping” (Meditate on the internal eyebrow centre for a moment & then begin tapping the external eyebrow centre, sending waves of vibrational energy there)
  5. Use Sound Healing or listen to a Sound Bath meditation
  6. Add Purple foods into your diet

Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

  1. Stop believing your thoughts, observe them & let them go. How can we be our thoughts if we don’t control them?
  2. Expand your limitations. Read books, watch videos & listen to podcasts on a range of topics to do with self-growth
  3. Clear out the clutter which will help the mind feel mess free
  4. Look out for synchronicity (Spiritual messages and guidance with numbers 11:11am etc)
  5. Wear & see the colour Purple/Violet
  6. Use Crystals (Selenite, Amethyst, Labradorite)
